Who this is for

Three situations bring most people to a branding session:

• a step up from general management into an executive seat

Each needs a different answer to the same question. That is what the session settles, and everything we write afterwards follows from it.

What we mean by a brand

Not visibility, and not a logo. A personal brand is what somebody says about you in a room you are not in — usually one or two sentences, usually a chair briefing a board. If those sentences are only your last job title, there is work to do.

Six things make one up: your origin story, your vision, your values, your positioning, the proof underneath all of it, and how you sound and present. We have written about each of them here.

Most executives can answer three or four of the six without thinking. The other two are why the session exists — they are considerably harder to work out about yourself than about anybody else.

How it works

A sixty-minute session by video conference, with two of our consultants rather than one. Two people hear different things, and the disagreement between them is usually where the useful part is.

What comes out of it is a consistent story, theme and brand — the position everything written afterwards is built from, which is why the CV, the LinkedIn profile and the letters read as one person rather than three.
