Executive Interview Coaching

By the final panel, everyone left is qualified.

What separates you is how you hold up in the room. Gartner found 72.4% of recruiting leaders have deliberately brought back in-person interviews — because live performance under questioning is the one signal that cannot be generated, scripted or faked.

We rehearse you until your answers hold.

Preparation is reading. Rehearsal is being taken apart.

Most interview coaching hands you a framework and a list of likely questions. That is preparation, and it produces candidates who sound prepared — which experienced panels discount immediately.

You are questioned, not taught

Sessions are run as interviews, not tutorials. You are interrupted, pushed on weak answers, and asked the follow-up you were hoping to avoid. It is uncomfortable, and that is the entire point.

It is recorded and reviewed

We play it back. Not to critique content alone, but delivery: pace, hedging, filler, eye line, and what you do in the silence when you genuinely do not know the answer.

Against your actual process

We work from the real role, the real organisation and the likely panel composition — not generic scenarios. If it is a board or chair interview, that is a different exercise and we prepare it differently.

Who runs your sessions

The two perspectives that decide the outcome

We are not aware of another Australian interview coaching practice that puts a registered clinical psychologist and a working executive recruiter in the same room.

Jessica

Performance under pressure

Registered clinical psychologist practising at The Alfred, with an MSc in Psychology and published research. She works on what pressure actually does to your delivery — the over-explaining, the defensiveness, and the single question that knocks you off balance and costs you the following ten minutes.

Kate

The panel’s perspective

Executive recruiter across London and Australia, who has run senior selection processes and sat on the deciding side of the table. She asks what a panel will actually ask, in the order they will ask it, and tells you how your answer landed rather than how it felt.

Campaign strategy and offer negotiation are led by Nick, a CFA charterholder and former JPMorgan portfolio manager. Where an interview process ends in a package discussion, that expertise is available to you.

How the sessions work

Most clients take two or three sessions before a live process. Some take one, immediately before a specific interview.

Session 01

Baseline and diagnosis

We review the role, the organisation and the likely panel, then run a full interview and record it without coaching you first. This gives us an honest starting point rather than a rehearsed one. Most people find this session uncomfortable — it is the most useful hour of the process.

Session 02

Rebuilding the answers that matter

Every executive interview turns on four or five answers: why you are leaving, the gap or the short tenure, the programme that did not work, the results you cannot fully claim, and why this role now. We rebuild those until they are specific, honest and defensible under follow-up.

Session 03

Full pressure test

A complete panel simulation against the real role, with interruptions, scepticism and the questions you hoped would not come. We then review the recording line by line, on content and on delivery.

What we work on that most coaching misses

The third follow-up

Most candidates prepare an answer. Few prepare for the third question about that answer, which is exactly where senior interviews are lost.

Board and chair interviews

A different exercise from an executive panel — shorter, more oblique, and judged on demonstrated judgement rather than polish.

Presentations and case exercises

Increasingly standard at general manager level and above, and almost never rehearsed properly under time pressure.

Psychometric assessment

What these instruments actually measure, and how to approach them honestly without second-guessing yourself into an odd profile.

The weak point in your record

The redundancy, the eighteen-month tenure, the restructure you led. Rehearsed until it is a straight answer rather than a defensive one.

Package discussion

When to raise it, how to answer the expectations question, and what not to concede in the room.

Whether this is right for you

Coaching is the right call if

  • You are reaching interviews but not converting them into offers
  • You have a specific process live and want to be properly ready for it
  • There is a known weak point in your record you have never answered well
  • You are facing a board, chair or panel format you have not done before
  • You are willing to be recorded, reviewed and corrected

It is not the right call if

  • You are not yet reaching interviews — the constraint is your application, so start with the executive resume writing service
  • You want reassurance rather than correction
  • You are looking for a guarantee of appointment — nobody can honestly offer one
  • You want a script to memorise; rehearsed answers are exactly what panels discount

Questions we are asked

How soon before my interview should we start?

Two weeks is comfortable and lets us run the full three-session sequence. We regularly take clients with 48 hours’ notice, and in that case we spend the whole session on the four or five answers that will decide it.

Is it worth it if I already interview well?

Often, and for a specific reason. Strong interviewers tend to be fluent, and fluency reads as rehearsed to an experienced panel. It is a fixable problem, but it is almost impossible to see in yourself — which is what the recording is for.

Do you guarantee I will get the role?

No, and treat anyone who does with suspicion. We do not control who else applies or what a panel decides in a room we are not in. What we commit to is the preparation described on this page, delivered to that standard.

I am employed. Is this confidential?

Entirely. Most of our clients are employed and moving deliberately. Nothing is published, and we do not use identifiable details without written consent.

Can you help with government or public sector panels?

Yes. Public sector and semi-government processes have their own conventions — structured questioning against published selection criteria, and often a written component. We prepare for that format specifically.

Do you coach for video and one-way interviews?

Yes, though note the market is moving the other way: a large majority of recruiting leaders have reinstated in-person interviews precisely because recorded formats are now easy to game. We prepare you for both.
