Questions to never ask in a job interview
Ever been in a job interview that is just going so well that you’re almost certain you’ve won the role? Don’t get too ahead of yourself and screw the whole thing up by asking the following questions:
- Don’t ask questions you could’ve found the answer to on Google.
- Never ask to change the scope of the role, hours worked or package. Speak to your Executive Agent prior to the interview for the best was to deploy such requests.
- Don’t bring up or refer to gossip.
- Don’t ask too many questions about the interviewer. They’re there to interview you.
- Don’t ask if they do background checks or reference checks. Let them bring it up.
- Don’t ask about closely related roles and whether you can move into those quickly.
- Don’t ask about how quickly you can be promoted unless it’s a natural progression. I.e. more responsibility within the current salary.

Eventually found Executive Agents online and decided to give them a go. Really glad I did! They knew exactly what was wrong with what I had and how to make it better. The person I worked with was lovely and explained everything properly without making me feel dumb.
My new resume looks so much more professional now and has all the right information that employers are looking for apparently. Already got a couple of interviews lined up which is more than I had before!

I have to say I am very happy with the outcome and the way the initial interview was undertaken, and the way that Kate worked though the process keeping me informed on the way. I’ve always got jobs through my networks and internal promotions. I’ve never had to prepare a resume and selection criteria statement before. The team helped me develop a high quality, great looking cover letter. My LinkedIn looks great and I'm getting invited to interviews.
